EC BLOCK RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION
Our Achievements
-
In Salt Lake, we are one of the oldest blocks doing community welfare activities for 12 years and Celebrating Durga Puja for the past 42 years.
-
The endeavours of various senior members of our block inspired us and we decided to do more and started various welfare oriented projects aimed at developing skills in the youth of the area. We want to empower the youth, particularly the girl child and the women.
-
The most effective work was to start the Computer Training Centre. Starting from zero, a few old used idle computers were collected from our residents; TCS came forward to donate a few old PCs. They were refurbished to make usable and we started a training class where our members were teachers.
-
Local boys and girls from the underprivileged section took great interest since they found the place to really learn computers much better than their academic schools where they rarely get an opportunity to have hands-on practice on a PC. Some adult members and ladies of our Block also attend the class to develop their skills on computer by practising under the able guidance of our Computer Teacher.
-
Our regular 'two days a week' class for 4 months ended in a full-fledged examination (Written / project.& oral). Results were published and to encourage the students, we arrange the convocations where certificates were distributed by eminent persons to the students having convocation scarfs knotted around their neck. We seek you contributions towards this endeavour. On our first convocation, we we graced by Prof. Dr Dilip Basu, the Ex VC of Burdwan & North Bengal Universities, who delivered a memorable lecture on Energy conservation and non conventional energy for the members of our Block after the convocation ceremony.
-
Seeing the enthusiasm of the students and in view of the heavy demand we had to increase the facility, and now we have 21 PCs and 3 Laptops running in two shifts on each Saturday and Sunday catering to 42 children and a few adults, and we offer Beginners' Course, Advanced Course and Practicing Class (for those who have passed but still want to carry on). A Certified Computer Trainer and our pass out students along with active block members who volunteer to manage.
-
Our local councillor commented -- "this is the only Association in Salt Lake doing such a wonderful job for the underprivileged group".
-
Our members and their relatives help us run the CTC and we thank them for their regular donations to meet the expenses. We feel we should expand further and admit more children; but we are tied up for funds and lack of infrastructure like space, class-room, more PCs etc.
-
We certainly look forward to the day when our CTC will be a Computer Institute or Academy, training much advanced courses and the beneficiaries will be from the section of the society who are otherwise always deprived.
-
This will be possible only with generous donations and blessings from our well-wishers.
-
Our Library is catering to 165 regular members having a total of 1720 books. We invite donation for our Library and accept donated usable books subject to approval of the Library sub-committee. We also request those wishing to take books visit us as we often donate books for free to the keen and erudite.
-
We have a very active helping Group to assist members in our Block during medical and other emergencies.
-
Quite often we organise Classical Indian Music Program free for our Block members in collaboration with other organisations.
-
Special rare photo-shows (educative & entertaining) are organised occasionally for our members, and students of CTC
-
We have arrangements to organise film shows for our members, and we do so occasionally.
-
For medical assistance, we arrange occasionally, health check up , eye check up camps free of charge for all.
-
Special lectures/ presentations by eminent doctors, literatures, scientists are occasionally arranged.
-
Ladies of our Block who are vocal singers, join regularly every week, a music practice club to improve their quality.
-
In collaboration with local rotary club, we started an outpatient medical check up unit under a qualified senior Doctor.
-
Yoga classes for the ladies and girls are held thrice a week in our Community Centre - guided by professional trainers who help all the young, fit and senior alike.
-

All above activities and some more such programs will rate us above many other similar organisations running today in Salt Lake. We are proud to be socially responsible block and are happy to be the best located block in Salt Lake to visit during Durga Puja and have great memories.
