Hello everybody,

 

A. Welcome to the revived newsletter after a gap of quite some time. Shall I say be awake and tolerate the new avatar in me as the self appointed Editor, of course with the permission of our new President and Secretary. We expect  to continue  a bimonthly newleter to bore, goad and seek your cooperation. The one way emails are convenient in that aspect. And works both ways now that the ECBRA has an email ecblock.ra@gmail.com.

We have been overwhelmed by  a series of tragedies i.e. death of many near and dear ones that includes my own dear wife Manju. Let us accept gracefully  the inevitable cycle of birth and death.

The brand new ECBRA  EXCOM are venturing into new

1. Concepts

2. Major refocus on socio economic sector

3. Programs and implementation processes and 

4. Financial management structure and techniques

The new committee under Mr Subrata Das (President), RD Mukherjee (Secretary) and Satyabrata Das (Treasurer) is supported by  very able team and to me,  this appears to be the very cream of our society  to implement the objectives above.

From the residents  the Committe expects the following support

• New members and timely payment of subscriptions and immediate clearance of arrears

• Active participation and Fresh ideas

B. Programs under consideration

 Seperately detailed in the Circular below.

C. Library

Given the shortage of space and conflict with Computer Training centre on Saturdays the library shall open on a different day (maybe Wednesday as original) to be notified.

The library and CTC on its own need more space. We have a capital expansion program to house the expanded library and CTC and expect the work to be completed by March, 2016.

D. Membership

Of the 367 resident families in EC Block only 260 are members. Even out of this woeful 70% about 40 members have more than 4 months arrear subscription.  Time and again the requests and counters fly but the 15-20% defaulters persist. 

WELFARE HAS A PRICE AND WE SHOULD NOT USE THE COMMON FACILITIES WITHOUT COMPENSATING. IT IS MORALLY INCORRECT. ECBRA IS STARTING A MEMBERSHIP CUM ARREAR COLLECTION DRIVE. Please cooperate.

E. Computer Training Centre (CTC)

One centre piece of our achievements is the CTC. As of now it has 17 computers (8 new) all in working order and minimum downtime. The burgeoning student population stands at 46 and wait list grows. Over 70 students have passed out having obtained basic and advanced certificate and become citizens of the new world order. This entire program has been supported by donation. The students are charged a nominal fee of Rs 100/pm for the entire course. We have a qualified trainer Sushanta who is paid a nominal salary and is focussed on delivery of good to the society. Besides we have 5 volunteers the principals being Shimanta Roy, Asim Roy, RD Mukherjee and of course Mother Aleya.

A welcome feature is that seniors especially elderly ladies have started returning to learn realising that current day living is not possible without access to computer and internet. One of the computers, which already contains substantial official data including Tally accounts, is being transferred to the executive office with a separate internet facility. 

F. Computerised Accounting

With active cooperation of our Auditor Mr Debasis Banerjee, we shall revive the system of computerised accounting . A nominal fee shall be paid and the old threads of accounting model shall be picked up.

G. ECBRA website

We have a regular website now <www.ecblockra.wix.com/ecbra>. This will open into a mutipage document providing basic information, photographs, a copy of the newletter or other matters for circulation. We are working for a domain name.

Our email is ecblock.ra@gmail.com. So have a go and flood the gmail with suggestions and complaints. Become a watchdog. I suppose President, Secretary and Treasurer will not protest.
